Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 4 August 2026

1. Who we are, and what you're agreeing to

Scout (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a curated matchmaking service for gay men in London. Members experience the service under the name Gay London Matchmaking — both names refer to the same service. By applying to join or using the service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service.

2. Eligibility

To join, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old;
  • be a man seeking a relationship with another man;
  • live in or within easy reach of London, United Kingdom;
  • be single, and genuinely looking for a relationship;
  • be legally able to enter into this agreement.

By using the service you confirm all of the above are true.

3. Joining

  • Membership is by application. We review every application personally and may accept or decline any application, at our sole discretion and without giving reasons.
  • Everything you tell us must be accurate, current and about you. Don’t impersonate anyone, use someone else’s photos, or create more than one account.
  • Approval is not a promise of introductions, and we may withdraw it if these terms are broken.

4. How the service works

  • One email a week. We send you a small, curated selection of members — no browsing, no feed. You respond “I’m interested” or “pass” to each, in your own time; responses don’t expire.
  • You appear in other members’ emails too. Being shown to other members — before either of you has expressed interest — is the service itself. What they see of you is set out in the Privacy Policy (section 7).
  • Introductions are mutual. Only when you and another member have both said you’re interested do we introduce you, by an email addressed to you both. A “pass” is never revealed to the other person.
  • The matchmaking is ours to run. Who we feature, to whom, how often, and how we assess compatibility (with AI assistance and human review) are editorial decisions we make. We don’t guarantee any number of introductions, matches, dates or outcomes.
  • You can quieten us down. You can stop receiving the weekly email without deleting your account — from your profile, or by emailing us.

5. Your account and links

There are no passwords. You access your profile and respond to introductions through personal links in the emails we send you. Those links act as you — anyone holding them can respond on your behalf or edit your profile — so keep your inbox secure and don’t forward our emails or share your links. Tell us immediately if you think someone else has used them.

6. Your content and what you allow us to do with it

You own your photos and everything you write. So that we can run the service, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to:

  • store and process your photos, including cropping, resizing and — for low-resolution photos — enhancing them, with human review;
  • write a profile summary of you in our own words, drawn from what you’ve told us;
  • show your profile (as described in the Privacy Policy) to other members in our emails and pages.

This licence exists only to operate the service and ends when your content is deleted. We will never post you publicly — including on our social media — without a separate opt-in and your approval of the exact post.

7. Conduct

You agree not to:

  • harass, abuse, deceive or harm other members, in or out of the service;
  • use the service for commercial purposes, or solicit members for anything;
  • share, screenshot for sharing, or sell other members’ information;
  • misuse another member’s contact details after an introduction;
  • use bots or automated systems, or attempt to scrape or probe the service;
  • attempt to circumvent how matching works;
  • break any applicable law.

Breaching these rules can mean immediate termination of your membership, without liability to us.

8. Fees

The service is currently free. If we ever introduce fees, we’ll tell you clearly and in advance, and nothing will be charged without your agreement.

9. Ending your membership

By you

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings section of your profile page. Deletion is immediate and permanent; what happens to your data is set out in the Privacy Policy (section 10).

By us

We may suspend or end your membership immediately if these terms are broken, if we believe you pose a risk to other members, for fraudulent or illegal activity, or — because this is a small, curated service — at our reasonable discretion. Sections 6 (for content already sent in emails), 10, 11 and 12 survive termination.

10. Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We are a matchmaker, not a guarantor of people: we review every member, but we are not responsible for members’ conduct, the accuracy of what they tell us, the outcome of any introduction, or what happens when you meet someone — online or in person.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, lost opportunities, or emotional distress arising from use of the service, and our total liability to you is limited to £100. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims, damages and expenses arising from your breach of these terms, your violation of anyone else’s rights, or content you submit.

13. Changes

We may update these terms, and we may change or discontinue features of the service. We’ll update the date at the top and email you about any material change before it takes effect. Using the service after a change takes effect means you accept it.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. Before any formal step, email us at matchmaker@helloscout.app — we’d rather sort it out directly.

15. General

  • These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the service.
  • If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remain in effect.
  • Not enforcing a right is not a waiver of it.
  • You may not transfer this agreement; we may assign it to a successor of the service.

16. Meeting people safely

When you meet someone: meet in a public place, tell a friend where you’re going, consider a video call first, and don’t share financial information. Trust your instincts. If another member makes you uncomfortable, tell us at matchmaker@helloscout.app — and if you experience threats or anything illegal, contact the police.

17. Contact

For questions about these terms, email matchmaker@helloscout.app.
